I am 25 years old and have decided that I want to become a doctor but I am kind of in a bad situation. For the past 7 years I have gone to college on and off, but never really picked any particular major. I have horrible job history (a lot of travelling, e.g. job switching). I have horrendous credit history ( a lot of bad investments, e.g. business ventures). I never really figured out what I wanted to do with my life, but now that I have figured it out, I don't know what to do...help? Any med students or doctors out there with any advice? Also, I have very little money...but that is probably already obvious...

The first thing you should do is talk to a counselor at your local community college. Since you don't have much money, you should go to community college. Courses such as Physics, Calculus, English Writing (all of which you must take), are transferrable to four year college transcripts. Take as many courses as possible in community college and then apply to get into a four year college. In the meantime, try to be active in the community. Perhaps you can volunteer for hospice work. Once you get to a four year college, you will probably need to talk to a counselor again to determine what courses you should enroll in. Try to get great grades, so you can apply for scholarships and financial aid. Just because you've had trouble in the past, doesn't mean that you won't be able to make a great future for yourself. In fact, almost every successful person who made a name for themselves had multiple failures before succeeding (i.e. George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Walt Disney). It's our resilience to failure and ability to learn from our past mistakes that makes us successful in life. Don't let your past get you down. Work hard and all will work out in time.
