Slavery took place because a bunch of scared white people ran across a race of what they thought were aliens, and decided to use their superior technology to get them to do what they want.

This would not have happened in another country because European's explored Asia and Europe by that point. When we stumbled upon parts of the world with different skinned people, we freaked because they were "uncultured, Godless beasts" and so we killed them and put them into slavery.

It was not an "identity," but rather a vendetta of the white man to that of what he is afraid of...change. But why did they put up with it...well, if they did not work for their masters, they were typically sevearly beaten. If they still refused, they were killed.

There were many groups of people enslaved over the years, not only Africans and none of them were treated well. The stigma associated with enslaving other races has been diluted over the years. I am black and as a black person in America I am a constant reminder of the wrong doings of prior generations. I think of the black folks in America as America's black eye that just willl not heal on it's own.

To answer your question referring to slaves from Africa though, I believe they were simply literally beaten into submission and then even so much as an implied threat was that much more real to them.

The threat of losing everything they held dear to them was their reality. They saw their children husbands, wives, parents and grand-parents sold and traded never to be seen or heard from again. I would imgaine that after suffering one loss after another they held on very tightly to theirs. They could not even marry legally and had secret ceremonies, hence jumping the broom on Sundays when they were given they day to be with their families after seeing to the needs of their owners.handlers.

I really think this was the epitome of survivl of the fittest at the most fundamental of levels. I think they hated their submission but realized that their very existence depended upon it.

Now, as to why did slavery take place..... It was a business opportunity begining on the shores of Africa itself.

you know thats not the first time slavery has taken place? slavery has been going on for thousands of years before the blacks were enslaved in America, the europeans who came here tried to enslave the native Americans but the natives would of rather died and did then be enslaved, they didn't make good slaves, the blacks leaders sold them and the blacks submitted to their new masters, thats what it comes down to, but not just black people have been enslaved

Slavery took place long before there was a United States. Even in the "New World", when many europeans "moved" here, they were slaves, as were many of the indigeneous populations in central and south america. Why did they put up with it? I dunno, maybe because if they didn't, they'd die?

the same reason people take jobs in the government: security. With freedom comes a great amount of work and responsibility. It is easy to let it go and just fall into the system of pride and greed.

Slavery is basically African origin at the time of Independence. And it's probably the only African things we accepted.

It's a sad thing.
