1st April used to be the first day of the year until 1752. The date 25th March was used for business purposes. After 1752, many people still continued to celebrate New Year on 1st April. They became known as April Fools!

Traditionally, April 1 begins after the last day in March. I'm not sure, but I believe it's been that way for a while now.
