I want to find an apartment in the area that is furnished because I don't have any of that sort of stuff yet, and within a reasonable price.

There are the want ads in the newspaper, of course. You also could check bulletin boards in the area you're intersted in. Lots of laundromats, coffee shops, libraries, and other places have a bulletin board. If you're a student, you should check at your school. There are often special boards for housing on campus. Also, tell everybody you can what you're looking for. If you can, strike up a conversation with clerks, waitresses, anybody... and tell them what you're looking for. You never know when someone will be able to give you a lead, but they won't know what you're looking for unless you ask.

You know, you can get by with very little. A foam pad to sleep on, a few empty cardboard boxes for a bedside stand to hold a lamp, cardboard boxes for holding clothes, a lamp, a plastic lawn chair and even a plastic patio table will get you started if it's impossible to find a furnished place. Over the summer, you could pick up real furniture at thrift stores or yard sales.

A safety tip: If you're a young female, I would suggest that you take a friend with you to view apartments if you're not sure who the person is that will be showing it to you. A resident manager is one thing, but I wouldn't want to go to a strange place and be alone with a stranger. Too much weirdness in the world.

Be sure to take a note pad and pen with you to make notes about the places you see. If you decide to rent, get everything in writing. Make a thorough inspection of the place and write down absolutely any damage that you find so that you won't be charged for that damage later.

Good luck.

Start by deciding where you want to live. Go to that area and see what apartments are there, shop around.
