Ask the admissions department whether or not you can re-apply for a different school. You may not be able to if deadlines have passed, but at least you'll know.
In the meantime, don't waste your time. You can always enroll in community college and get some credits out of the way, or find a job.

It should'nt make a diffrence, since you are that good in science. If you love to be a mechanical engineer, I would say go for it. Because if you choose the wrong career, you would have to start afresh from the begining if you want to change it. Remember this is your career, your future. Call to change the major if you have already sent your application, and call again to have your college confirm that this correction has been made. Choose what you want to be and stop being scared of acceptance. What matter's is your are good in science. Although you have to be good in math for this kind of career. That is no problem, you can put more focus in maths, and there is a possibility of strengtening your maths skills.
To determine your acceptance, colleges and Universities consider alot of things, Things like; your gpa, sat, or act scores. How well you did in high school, and if you can pay for college and how you would pay for college. If you have scholaship, thats great and if you have financial aid it is good. Note: dicuss paying for college with a concellor and your parent or guardian. And at list apply to as many colleges as you can. Minimmum ten colleges to increase your chance of being accepted.
After all this, if you don't get accepted you might go cracy or panic. don't let this happen to you, control you emottion. Contact the college you would like to go to, that has rejected you and ask for the requirement. This course requirement should be sent to you by mail, get this to know what courses to take in a community college( A two year accredited college) and try to get a very good grade in this college because you would be transferring to your college. Speak to your high school concellor, teachers and your community college concellor to be on the safe side of this journey good luck.

if you don't get accepted to a college, then you can always look for a job that has to deal with either political science or mechanical engineering. i'm a college student, but i really tell you anything else. but if you really like the political science, then stick with it, but if you like mechanical engineering better, then go with that. because in mechanical engineering, you're gonna use science anyway. so it's up to you.
