- A career close to your values, like social work (making a real difference in the lives of people)?
- A career you have a talent for or might enjoy, like art (or something creative)?

Which would you rather choose..

I would actually, choose a third option and that would be a career that I have a talent for and would enjoy and that would make a difference in the lives of people or the world. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive. So for example an artist might express the pain, sorrow, challenges, hopes, triumps in the world and may also help others to express this through workshops and programs working with youth. An artist might become an art therapist. There are many ways the two can and ideally should exist together. Think of the many authors who have expressed political commentary as a part of works of fiction that have help chaged the world (think of mark twain and Huck Finn and the relationship between a white boy and a black man).

The second one because you should do something that you love doing, or that you enjoy doing.. cuz otherwise work will just end up sucking. yeah.. helping people is nice, but you could end up hating it. stick with what you love. you'll be happier.
