He was single and had no children and no will. He once told me that I was beneficiary on an account of his. How do we go about locating that account? We did close out a checking that we located. But we found nothing else.
Any assistance will be appreciated. Thank you

It was not the life insurance policy. That was left to siblings

Contact the Unclaimed Property division of the Attorney General for your state. It's possible that the account may have been turned over to them. If they don't have the account now, and you can't find the account, continue to check with the Unclaimed Properties office every year just in case it turns up someday.

Condolences on the lose of your son.

A lot of times, you can determine what kind of investments a person had or where they did their banking based on a copy of their income tax return for the year before he died. Of course, I am going to assume that you have already looked at any investment records your son may have had at his home or apartment. And, also, I am going to assume that you had his mail forwarded to you so that you could make arrangements to pay bills and marshall his assets.

I agree with another answer about contacting the Unclaimed Property Office in your state. Sometimes it is called an Unclaimed Property Office, and somethimes it may be called the Bureau of Escheats, and they are usually under the jurisdiction of the Department of Treasury of the state your son lived in.

Many states offer the ability to do a search of names for unclaimed property on the internet. As an example, the state of Pennsylvania has a website where you can do such a search if your son were a resident of Pennsylvania. Check with your state treasurer or other state official. They often are responsible for taking unclaimed accounts and trying to locate owners or surviving relatives. Some states even have websites where you can search by name.

Possibly a life policy through his place of employment or his 401k/TSA?

I am sorry for your loss and sorry that I cannot give you any better ideas.
