Just yesterday, I started smelling a burnt plastic smell and then the a/c stopped blowing through the front vents of my a/c. It still works if I change it to blow at my feet or up on the windshield's defrost. What do I need to do to fix this? Is it expensive? Also, I have a 2001 Toyota Camry.

Just yesterday, I started smelling a burnt plastic smell and then the a/c stopped blowing through the front vents of my a/c. It still works if I change it to blow at my feet or up on the windshield's defrost. It also works (but still smells) on the strongest blowing setting on the front vents. I don't want to use this setting for fear I will just make it worse.

What do I need to do to fix this? Is it expensive?

Also, I have a 2001 Toyota Camry.

That switch you use to change from the say top vents to the bottom is defective. You need to replace it, and you have to remove part of the facing on the dash to get at it.
That is what you smelled. It melted.

You have a shot Blend Door Actuator. Auto parts stores carry these for some cars but not for all. You might have to go to the dealer to get one. Your favorite mechanic can do the install.
