I have to to a speech about a problem for my public speaking class. I have chosen the topic of excess violence in sports and want to get some other opinions on what needs to be done to solve the problem in not only in professional sports, but all sports from High School sports on up. So my question is, What do you feel needs to be done to eliminate excess violence in sports?
Tougher fines and suspensions?
Some type of so many strikes and your out program?
Or just get rid of offenders all togeather?
any other opinions too.

Prevention should be the focus.

Athletes at the high school and collegiate levels should receive training on sportsmanship, behavior, and how to recognize and curb violence.

Sports at all levels need to adopt consistent policies on violence, where there are some zero-tolerance, one-and-done penalities. Three strikes is probably fair, but some depicable behavior (intentionally hurting someone) should be outlawed.

This is a tough subject, because the secret to success in sports like football is to channel "controlled rage," and harness agressive behavior.

I believe that when a proffesional athelete punches a spectator in the face (unless in defense) that the athlete should never be able to play sports again. So I guess stiffer suspensions. These athletes are paid entirly too much to still be acting like thugs on the streets. Also the fact that sports are so widely viewed by our children really bothers me. All we are teaching our kids is that its ok to act like a bully on the field.
Some of the incedents that have occurred recently have been harmful to these peoples lives (stomping someones head in the ground, biting peoples ears off, kicking cameramen). This is totally unexceptable.

High school sports events could be scripted with the outcomes determined in advance. When the first sign of violence breaks out, the schools superintendents simply go for a Federal hearing and claim that it is merely sports entertainment and that people shouldn't get so caught up in it!

I think they should have levels for the violations for how bad the offense was. After they have reached a certain number then they will lose their jobs. And also a hefty fine to go along with each level. In high school I think they should be benched or just kicked off the team all together.
