Just imagine how many rings Dan could have had if Miami had a running game while he was around.

I think he's definitely one of if not the best.

If he had the team that Joe Montana or John Elway had when they won their super bowls, there would be no question.

Hell.. If he had the team the Eagles had in the early 90's, he would have won a Super Bowl.

The man never had a running game, occasionally had a defense, and had the ability to make an average receiver into a consistent pro bowl player. He was a brilliant player and a joy to watch.

1. Sammy Baugh - was more than just a QB he was also a punter, a tailback at some time, and has awesome stats for the era he played in. 45.1 yards per punt
2. Terry Bradshaw - won four rings
3. John Elway
4. John Unitas
5. Montana
6. Y. A. Tittle
7. Marino
8. Bart Starr
9. Manning, Peyton
10. Dan Fouts

These are my top ten but not in any order to be honest. Because there is a case for each Hall of Fame QB to be on this list for some reason or another. Peyton is the only modern day QB I place in with these greats. Both Fouts and Marino never had a running game and put up huge numbers due to that. But both could thread a needle. I went with three old school players because they were tough and played with many major injuries. Unitas played almost a full season with a fractured stirnum which is amazing. Broken noses, ribs, fingers, and other injuries were common for Tittle, Baugh, and Unitas so to me that gets them a little extra consideration.

I would have to put several qbs ahead of Dan. He may have been the most gifted, but not the best.

1. Joe Montana
2. Tom Brady
3. Terry Bradshaw
4. Troy Aikman
5. John Elway (won 2 and lost 3 superbowls=5 trips to Dan's one.
6. Jim Kelly ( Went to 4 straight superbowls! Thats one of the greatest feats ever in sports)
7. Brett Farve (Won a superbowl and has almost as many TD's)
8. Peyton Manning (Finally won the big one. By current estimates, he'll be traveling up this list.)

and finally #9 Dan Marino.

Marino is my favorite qb but,I would have to say he is not the greatest of all-time.
That would be Otto Graham from 1946-1955 he led the Browns to 10 league championship games in 10 years. They won 7 league tittles in his 10 years as a pro.

QB's are judged by championships.
Graham won 7 in his carreer.
Bart Starr won 5 in his carreer.
Terry Bradshaw and Joe Montana won 4 each.
Johnny Unitas,Troy Aikman and Tom Brady won 3 each.

Most people forget there was championship games played long before the Superbowl.

For the guy who wrote about Sammy Baugh you forgot he also was a great safety on defense.

Best of all time? Please. And I'm not one of those guys that think you need a championship to be considered the best. I have softened up a bit on Marino over the years (I always hated the Fish) but I don't think he was better than Unitas, Montana or Peyton Manning is now.

Yes he is the best of all time. You are right if he had a running game and a great line he wouldn't have thrown it as much and got all of the records. If he had a line and running game he would have had super bowl wins. I am a Saint's fan, but give the devil his due, he had the quickest release because he had to to survive, made great reads, and had to throw to decent receivers not greats like Jerry Rice.

It they did have a running game, Dan Marino wouldn't have thrown it as often therefore he wouldn't have all those records. He had his shot in 1984 and he lost. Get over it.

Not even in the top ten of all times. If they had a running game he'd complain that they aren't throwing more. He never earned any rings and never deserved them.
