class is not about more or less money, it is about heirs. how you carry yourself, the poorest person can have great class if they carry themselves in a certain manner. There are lots of frauds out there, pretending to have and be more that they are. Money does not make someone noble or honorable, they do.

I would love to say there is no class status but unfortunately there is. I was "upper middle class" when growing up. Huge detached house, 3 foreign holidays a year, 2 / 3 in UK, 2 cars, mum didn't need to work etc etc. However, parents split and we suddenly had no money and I am now rather firmly in working class (friends say upper middle class as between me and my partner we bring in approx £45,000 per year).
However, this was not good enough for several companies I worked for. I worked for a couple of solicitors firms and was not good enough for them and their champagne picnics (my idea of picnic is sausage rolls and few bottles of alco pops and lager). It was similar to when i worked at the Probation service. Because I had not been to uni I was looked down on (I was the only one who did not go to uni in the office).
Anyway, I have really digressed, I think that it depends on what "class" you are in to whether you judge class by whether you have more or they have less. I think the "lower middle" and the "middle" class tend to do the whole you have less (that has certainly been what i have witnessed) and the "upper middle" tend to do the whole more thing.
True "upper" class never discuss anything as sordid as money.

I am v poor so no, but I am working towards my education which will help me and my boyfriend in the long run - doesnt mean i will suddenly become stuck up. I just cant wait for the day when I can go out and buy something without thinking about it (like a cd or something like that)

i rate mine as poor because i have less than those around me but i do lead a comfortableish life. When i had money i felt like middle class cause i could buy what i wanted but couldn't go nuts and buy cars and stuff. and i compared it in relation to the society around me to determine how well i was doing. I'm not as important or as valuable to society right now as i was; which is evident in my paycheck and social standing, both in terms of respect, money and people who "want to be my friend" or sleep with you.

Class Status and Poor are relative concepts which without agreed parameters are meaningless.
As are intelligence and erudition, both of which are more valuable than either class status or wealth.

I'm better than the poor because I have more of course. that's obvious isn't it?
I won't say how much more because it's not polite to talk about how much money one has.
I don't need to work though as my parents have plenty to subsidise me. It's only those that have no class that say we're all equal don't you think?

My status is human and as a human I am subject to everything that may befall man. I do not see myself as middle class, I see myself as potentially rich or potentially homeless. There but by the grace of God go I.

Neither.
"Class status" is something artificial and anyone that allows themselves to buy into that belief system is already very very poor!

I'm poor but think myself classless. I find people who are poor or rich are just as snobby and proud of their background and just as ill mannered, all be it with occasionally better volcabulary. (I work in retail)
