Oh there are so many! Try looking here for ideas: http://www.coversproject.com/

Off the top of my head I particularly love 'Something' done by Shirley Bassey, 'Blister in the Sun' done by The Wannadies, Here Comes the Sun done by Nina Simone, The Man Who Sold the World done by Nirvana (Unplugged), Fields of Gold done by Eva Cassidy, Get Ready done by Ash, Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm, Whole Lotta Love by Goldbug...

There's a fairly wide selection!

Try these..
Andy Warhol, Dancing Days, Break on Through to the other side, Shin on you crazy diamond...all covered by Stone Temple Pilots, Sex Type Thing (heroin cover) Stp covers ther own song but its sweet cause they do it almost like a lounge singer and it almost sounds like a tune from a Bond film, But Not Tonight covered by Scott Weiland, Surrender covered by Camp Freddy.
Oh and try to find the songs that Jay-Z and Linkin Park mixed together...they did that really well.

Hope i could help.

Newfound Glory did a ton of covers. I remember one of them being of Bryan Adams, and I liked it more than the original.
Oar did some funny covers. They were a rock band and they covered a lot of hip hop.
Pearl Jam has done some good covers; I won't back down (Tom Petty), Rockin in the Free World (Neil Young), Hungerstrike (Temple of the Dog), Sonic Reducer (Dead Boys), etc.
Get Up Kids has a whole album of covers called Eudora. My favorite was Alec Eiffel (I think a Pixies cover).

depends what are is your demographic!
is this for a live band playing the songs? if so then stick to classic rock hits with some original songs.. any popular hits of rock is a winner!
some new alternitive too!
depends on the crowd tho!
if it is for a wedding then stick to funkish oldish classic slower rock and some RnB
if it is for a dj at a bar then mix it up with some hot hip hop and all that stuff that makes a women feel like a 2 bit horr
