Not very likely.
There are just too many similarities in our DNA to other earth-living organisms.
For example, certain protein molecules (like our insulin molecule, or the pigments that give us color vision) are pretty much *identical* (base-pair for base-pair) with other apes like chimps and gorillas. Even the locations of the genes that code for these proteins are on the same locations in the same chromosomes.
It didn't have to be this way. There are *many* different variations of insulin that would do pretty much the same job, or the genes could be in completely different locations in the chromosomes and we would still have the information to code for the proteins. But although it didn't have to be this way ... it *is* this way.
There are segments of DNA (some useful, some unused) that we have in common with pretty much all terrestrial life ... from other mammals, to other vertebrates, all the way to some plants.

For many many years I have played around with the thought that "God" is actually just an alien who is much further along the evolutionary line than us humans. (I have also long since wondered whether or not it really "created us in its own image".) There are plenty of planets out there that are a lot older than Earth, right? (Older in that tectonic activity settled down enough and temperatures leveled out enough to allow life to take hold sooner than on Earth.) Also, the lifeforms there might have advanced more quickly than we humans have.
If they used DNA codes to make us, would they use their own or that of other animals on their planet? Or perhaps a combination? I've always thought that life on Earth is one big experiment. Maybe we're all some alien kid's school science project. Wouldn't that be funny?
I think it is indeed quite possible that we Terrans were made and put here by aliens...But then, that raises the question: "Where did they come from?/ Who made them?" It's all far too complex for me to wrap my brain around, so I've joined that "Big Bang Thoeory" group. Once upon a time, there was a clump of stuff packed together so tightly that an incredible amount of energy was built up, causing the clump of stuff to explode into a zillion pieces (many of which later ran into eachother and ended up stuck back together again). Moons orbitting planets, orbitting stars were thus created. Planets with just the right conditions and elements have the potential ability to support life. Certain elements randomly join together to form organic compounds...and the cycle of life and evolution begins. I figure everything will eventually collect back into that original clump of stuff and the process will begin anew...again and again. Goodness knows how many times it may have happened already.
I know it's not very comforting to think our origins and existence are so random, but I think it's the best we've got--so far. Let the pursuit of new scientific knowledge continue unhindered! Who knows, maybe someday, humans will also figure out how to create new life just the way you suggested.

it somewhat is very a bounce to make from aliens manipulating and storing DNA to 2012 crap. i've got self belief the alien element is a possibility (perhaps far fetched yet possible), i do no longer think of the international will lead to 2012, thats meant to be the Mayan apocalypse, their apocalypse exchange into thousands of years in the past, it exchange into referred to as The Aztecs. @Brad B "yet sensible existence is uncommon in the universe" it somewhat is very an assumption for somebody who's by no capacity considered 4 galaxies away, no longer to indicate a million,000. To the malicious program in the cheese, the cheese is the universe.

Could be... very interesting exercise of thought.
The replication of DNA and cells and reproduction of beings as a perpetuation mechanism in a place that's too dynamic to support eternity of a constant structure (donno how inprinted lifetime of beings is in DNA and how responsible are external variables for it, like high frequency radiations, etc).
What if we're just "contamination" from another form of live, with a more complex structure of coding system, from which our planet just received 4 bases?...
