Abraham lincoln once said:
"You don't get succeed by punishing the successful."
Taxing the rich hurts the middle class and poor because:
-"the rich" employ people
-our service industry is largely driven by the rich
-the rich build businesses that employ us all

The deficit wouldn't be as high, and there might be some money for services that have been slashed (law enforcement, emergency services, people to make sure the food supply is edible).
The people who say that when the rich don't pay taxes everyone benefits are full of it.
It didn't work under Reagan, and it doesn't work now. It simply never does trickle down. The rich sock it away -- they don't hand it out.
The middle class pays, and gets less in return.
If there were still a union and labor movement in the country, that would likely get you a decent living, but the "trickle down" folks have pretty much squelched that.
Being more deeply in debt is bad for the country.
That's one of the main reasons most Americans opposed Bush the Younger's tax cuts.
So, no, you won't get a raise (bet you didn't when his taxes were cut, did you?) -- but it would cost you less in the long run, when you wouldn't be paying ten times the tax you do now, for fewer services in return, in order to pay interest on all the loans Bush has been piling up.

the rich benefit... look if i am rich and you raise my taxes... I'm going to hide all i can.. fire a few people.. to cover some cost.. then I'm going to raise prices on whatever I supply you to cover the higher tax rate... example.. bread is going up .25 rent is going up $50.00... whatever I sell is going up you are paying the tax... not me.. the only others that do are the leeches on the system.. everyone else is getting nailed to the wall

The democrats do, certainly not the boss or even to whom this new money would be for (trickle down theory doesn'twork for the democrats) but the taxes make them look good..."look at what we are doing for you"!

I think that we all benefit. Where do you think the taxes are going? Have you taken a look at our Medicare/Medicaid systems, at our schools, and our roads, and etc...?
