Some of the things you can do are: be sure to go back and make sure all cracks and holes are sealed - no way to get each and everyone, but you can get most of them. Be sure your doors and screens do not have spaces, a snake is like a mouse, they can get into really small places. Living out like you do you might want to put out some mouse poison - get the kind in the box that looks like a wedge of cheese. The poison control says that is the safest around children and pets, place it back behind things and up where children and pets can not reach, naturally. Make sure you mow your yard regularly and don't have any cool damp places close to the house: wood piles, kids swimming pool, opening under the house, etc. Snakes will feed on mice if there are any and maybe that poison can help get rid of them. If you have cement porch that attracts scorpions, snakes and other crawling things because it stays cooler than most others. When you live out, you just have to adjust a few things to fit into your surroundings. Please be sure to look into any feed you might have before you get any and under and around hay bales. Once you get used to looking first it really isn't too bad. We have to get rid of some each year to keep chicks and eggs around the house. Good Luck

Snakes do search for a cool dark place during summer time. The best thing to do is clear the brush and and leaves away from your house so they will not go near you. Try your best to clog up any small holes that a snake could get into and get in your house. There is also snake repellent that you can get at any hardware store and sprinkle that around the perimeter of your house. Just make sure they are not in the area you want to protect or else they will stay there perminantly. If you want a more natural alternative you could get a pet mongoose they like to eat snakes so that would be a good deterent.

Snakes in the wild search for both cool spots in the summer and warm spots in the cooler temps before they hibernate. I'm constantly on the lookout for black snakes where I live. Many times snakes like to hang out where ther are food sources. Do you get lots of field mice or baby bunnies near your house? If so,you may want to adopt a cat to cut back on natural food sources available to the snakes.

Ah, the ADRENALINE RUSH..
During the heat of summer, snakes look for cooler places and in the winter look for warm ones.
Living in the country does have it's disadvantages with the local fauna and snakes are one of them. There are several products on the market that are said to repel snakes but I have not heard of any of them actually working.
Having cats or dogs can help but it does not make you 100% snake proof. Clearing brush or ornamental plants away from the house and mowing grass short and often can help. If there are any trash piles, logs and such for the snakes to hide under, remove them also.
This still will not make you 100% snake proof but should help.

MOVE......lol. That is just what I would do. There are many old wives tales out their like putting mothballs under a house or I guess where you don't want them. Or sulphur. I would contact a pest control company and ask them if there is anything you can do.
