With proper maintenance they can last indefinitely. Take a regulator maintenance class and they can teach you minor maintenance you can do to keep your regulator in shape. Periodically you may need to have some of the plastic seats and springs replaced by a professional. Most of all KEEP IT CLEAN!

Hello,
So for the regulators normally they can be used for a life time, but this depends also about the following points:

1) the brand you buy? (I would opt for a Mares or Apex) you better buy a good brand then a cheap brand and always be sure that you can service them nearly everywhere....because they mostly have probems when you are on holiday..(if they do have a problem....
.
2) are the service kits available? buy a complete service kit for the first and second stage, just in case if you are in holiday that you have the parts with you if they need to be serviced...

3) let them service once a year.

4) buy a balanced dry sealed regulator they are more reliable and need less maintenance, they are more friendly to agressive environment and much more confortable to breath!

5) is the company a well established brand or are they new on the market, some regulators show-up and disapear the year after!

6) be careful, sometimes servicing a regulator can cost you really a lot of money, so ask before what a service will cot you!

So in general, I would say that regulators are for life if they are well maintained, I have my Mares since 12 years and I still find all parts today...

Wish you a nice day.

Years and years with proper maintenance. Throughout the years, you'll need to replace the hoses as they will wear out, but that is a minimal cost compared to a new regulator.

Dear,
regulators last many years , but new innovations in their design forces you to buy a new one after some years , new design surpasses old design
specially in the easiness of air flow
after how many years you should buy a new one?
this depends on the human brain.
in my diving life of 29 years i bought 4 regulators
get your regulator checked and serviced regularly.

With proper maintance they can last a very long time. I have two sets over 12 years old and working GREAT! Every year I have them serviced. Servicing is the KEY!
