Buffing aluminum?

I'm attempting to get a mirror like shine on a non anodized surface. Is it recommended to use different buffing wheels with the different levels of buffing compounds?

Yes. It is nearly impossible to get the compound out of the wheels. Therefore when you drop down to a smoother compound you should use a new wheel.
