I just recently purchased a used car in Feb 21 of this year. The car had about 80k on it and had the 100 and whatever point inspection to ensure it was fine. About 2 weeks of owning the transmission blew. I contacted the dealer and had to basically go all the way to the owner of the dealership to get them to finally take care of the problem. The car has been in the shop for 2 weeks now and everytime they tell me it's going to be ready they call back and keep pushing the date forward. The tell me now it's going to be This Wed. I did not recieve a loaner car. We have another car however with three children it is becoming more and more inconvient to try to get anything done with just one car now as I work 12 to 14 hour days with a rotating schedule so my wife is left home alone without a car and incase of any problems with the children she is stuck. My question is do I have the right to complain to the dealer? Or just be happy they are fixing the problem?

You bought a used car with 80k plus miles. Clearly the transmission was working fine when you bought it so I don't know why you are trying to blame the dealer. They can't detect a problem on an inspection if the problem isn't there. It's like a doctor trying to diagnose a patient with no symptoms. Also, on any used car purchase you should have the vehicle inspected by your own mechanic for your protection. If you didn't do that, well...

Also, as someone who worked in the car industry for several years I can assure you there is no federal mandate that dealers have to provide a 30-day warranty on any used car sold. In fact in my state any car with more than 75k miles is sold "as-is" with no warranty whatsoever, unless the customer elects to purchase one.

Obviously it is taking a long time to get the car back. These things happen sometimes and its a pain, but I can assure you they probably don't want the car hanging around the shop any more than you do.

You may need to talk to a lawyer in order to see what your rights in this situation are, and what recourse you may be able to take. If the car was under warranty when the problem occurred, I would certainly be there demanding a loaner, if not my money back.

By all means you can complain. But you have to let them fix it if that is where you got it. However being it has been over 2 weeks, I would tell them look if you cant repair what you sold me then I will take it to someone who can and give you the bill.

i would speak to the dealership explaining that you are unhappy and dissatisfied with their service. If they still wont fix it or anything i would tryand sell it back to thema nd go to a different dealership.
