I just had this idea of making a postcard that I could mail. I am not crafsty at all...but I would like to try and make one. I want to make one that I can mail out w/ no problems.

I have never been to Kinkos, do I need to go there? (I have heard of ppl who go and make collages, fliers, etc...maybe I should post a separate question to Kinkos, cause I mention them, but nothing about the place!)

Also, I just saw a similar question that mentioned cardstock...what's that? Can/should I use it?

Or maybe I should use adobe photoshop or something.

I want IDEAS and then I need INSTRUCTIONS....

I'd make a postcard w/ a pictrue, drawing or painting...maybe photocopies and mail it out. I want to buy like a postcard you'd buy on vacation.

Puhlease...any ideas that you have? I want something beautiful and near professional (or craftsy)!

thank you :)

Go buy an inexpensive postcard, and copy all the appropriate markings onto a piece of same-sized card (card stock is any kind of paper about the same thickness as bristol board). You can also buy pre-printed postcards that are blank on the other side, at an art/craft store.

Make sure you use an ink that won't run if it gets wet. Lots of folks do this - have fun!

The following site will do the work of designing a professional picture postcard for you. All you have to do is send your instructions and any photos by email. The take your information and start designing your postcard front and back. In about a day after they have your instructions they send you back an email with a link to a web page so you can review the design and ask for changes, or submit a printing order.

You do not need to use photoshop. You do not need to visit Kinkos.

This custom design work is done for you by a professional designer and it is done for FREE!

Here is a link to their web site:

By the way: cardstock is just heavier paper media which most postcards are printed on.

You may want to go to kinkos or some other local print shop! depending on how many you want to send out will depend on the cost!
If you can design it then kinko's will print it! I"m sure they will have someone on hand that will help you get what you want! you should go and check it out it won't hurt!
I tend to do things the hard way I mean my way! lol

Card stock is a thick type of paper! it is used on most cards! get it card stock cards lol!
crazy i know! but some are thicker some are thinner like paper! so look for one that will suit your needs~! What are your needs do you want someone to be able to bend it easy to put in a pocket with out the buldge or not so easy!

Adobe photoshop would be a great place to start your design!
you will have to get the size you need this is where you may have to get someone elses help!
Iknow you have to leave room for the bar mark at the bottom and the next time you get mailed a post card you can care for the meausrements on where they are posted or call the post office! and ask them!
but again Kinko's may have this information too so don't be afraid to sit down and see what you can work out!

colors are beautiful and professional expreinment or have someone create one for you!
hope that helps some!

all you need is a piece of light colored card board. White would make it easiest.
Then you can draw/ collage/whatever on one side. Leave space on the other side for mailing adress, stamp and message. What is difficult about it? All you need is paper which is stiff enough to be mailed.
Look at the link for a number of home made postcards, though there the emphasis is not to produce a beautful image. Apparently you can even use a paper plate as a postcard...

All that is needed is a hard card stock. I have made my own before & mailed them & didn't have to copy markings or anything.
