Let me tell you about those camps we used to have.
The SS created the first KZ (Konzentrationslager) in 1933. They became necessary because the Nazis arrested so many people that all jails were filled to the max.
In the beginning the camps were just to keep all those troublesome people arrested. There were no Jews in there. Communists, some social democrats, some intellectuals and the like were the first to enjoy the hospitality of the Nazis. If some of them were Jews, they were in there for the political views not for being Jewish.
Later Jews and other unwelcome people were send to the KZs. There were three types. The Konzentrationslager, Arbeitslager (work camps) and the Vernichtungslager (destruction camps). Both went under the lable KZ.
In Konzentrationslager like Bergen-Belsen people died rather by coincidence. They didn't get much food, no medicine and the less lucky ones were allowed to be part of medical experiments. Experiments like how long it take for a grown man to frees to death. Or how long it takes to die of an infected wound, which had to be created...
In Arbeitslager the people had to work. They also didn't get much food and no medicine. If they were to weak to work they were shot right were they stood or sat.
The worst were the Vernichtungslager like Auschwitz. Here the people got nearly no food and no medicine and just had to wait their turn to be murdered. In the last days of the Third Reich the killing became an industry rather then a crime. Huge gas chambers which looked like showers, were used to kill the poor people in hundreds at a time. A slightly angled floor made it easy to push the corpses out. Gigantic crematories worked all around the clock, producing so much smoke and ash the the sky was always dark and falling snow was black before it reached the ground.
It addition to all this the guards were cruel when they had a good day and worse when they had a bad day. They could kill whom they wanted for no reason. They didn't need an excuse like "He spat on the ground".
What do you think? How was it there?
I think that there was no bigger crime and no other place a terrible as a concentration camp.

Well, i think that you might have missed a few words in the sentence there. Hitler didn't just have one. He had many and
i'm quite sure that prisoners in solitary confinement would choose to be there instead of a concentration camp. The difference between what we did and what Hitler and his allies did was we didn't put the asian people in one to torture and kill and mutilate them. That was Hitler's intention. If you really want to understand better, go to the library or book store and look for books about the Holocaust. Believe me, there is no way that I would not want to even visit one. I think that there are marks left that time cannot erase. Imagine a vast field 10 feet deep that has very soft soil, full of human bone matter.

It's hard to say really. While I know that these places were horrible to live in I'm only getting one side of the story (I'm one of those people who loves both sides) There might not be another side though, so, in that case, I have to say they sound terrible.
Re-reading Anne Frank's diary made me shiver after reading what she went through.

Which ones? The ones that the Germans used for those of jewish heritage, or the ones that the US used for its citizens of Japanese heritage?
Well, they were both bad if you ask me.
