Hi I am 28 weeks pregnant and have been having real trouble with my sugars.
I am ill after eating from becoming hyper then dropping low quickly.
My midwife wants me on Insulin because I get high readings after 1 hour but then normal within 2 hours which Insulin will they give me?
I am baffled and not clued up at all on this. Thanks so much.

I had gestational diabetes as well. It is so frustrating but very manageable if you get on the right meds! I was on the Humulin pen insulin and it worked very well. The pen is a very easy device to use and the needle is so little that it does not hurt.

I recommend researching gestational diabetes on the internet and talking with your doctor about your concerns. It is a bit tricky to figure out but I ate a little snack every 2 hours and it made things much better for my sugar levels. Good luck and your little one will be here before you know it!

Have you been taught about diabetic meal planning? If not - email me and I can give you the scoop. Went through GD with my last two babies and needed insulin with both. If you are in the states you will need a prescription to get insulin and that will tell the druggist what type to give you. I know of 2 main types of insulin - quick acting and long acting. If you are having trouble with your after meal numbers, then you will need a quick acting insulin. If you are having trouble with your morning fasting numbers you will need a long acting insulin. I needed both. It's not that bad once you get use to it. email me with any questions - gaylerbrody@yahoo.com

Take care - you'll do great!

I was recently dignosed with gestational diabetes and my doctor is having me take Glyburide tablets. It's been a God send since my sugar levels have leveled off but I am still having to follow a diabetic diet to help manage the levels. Good luck

i had gestational diabetes pretty bad like you too, but the doctors put me on a pill to control it. you need to see your doctor and have them manage the diabetes properly. wether or not you go on insulin should be up to them.
