i lived in arlington from age 5 to 23 and as cute and pretty as it is, there is no place to stay! unless of course you have family / friends in the area. there are a few hotels in Medford, MA (which is next door to arlington - so I would look into those).

As for eating in Arlington...well it's a very small town and like I think someone said Jimmy's Steer House is always good!! It gets packed with many many elderly people though (it's their fav. dining spot) but don't let that fool you - they have great steak and stuffed shrimp (my favorite!!)

there is also a Not Your Average Joe's on Mass. Ave right near the center of town. You can't really go wrong there. Then, of course, there are a million pizza and sub shops. (it's kind of what arlington is known for - hair salons, nail places, and pizza - haha)!

There is Capri Pizza (fantastic), Nick's place, A & A (not recommended - under new management) and then good old Papa Gino's in the center!

Good luck. Not sure why you are staying in Arlington - but it's not so bad :)

There are no hotels in Arlington. You may want to stay in nearby Cambridge. This will depend, obviously, if you are going to have transportation. Perhaps see if there are any small inns or B&Bs in Arlinton, it's a possibility. There are soem good eateries around Arlington Center. Traveling anywhere along Mass Ave is generally good.

If your real destination is Arlington, do not stay in Harvard Square -- really expensive. Try looking at places to stay in North Cambridge or Medford.

If you will have a car, make sure you have a place to park it...if not, there are MBTA buses from Arlington to many other parts of the area.

Harvard (and nearby Central Square) are great destinations for all sorts of restaurants, though!

I was born and raised in Boston. My favorite spot, (Taxi-it) It's not far, is Maggiano's. The greatest Italian food you'll ever have. The Park Plaza Hotel is directly across the street from the restaraunt. If you are driving, there is a parking garage right next to the restaraunt. These places are right in the theatre distrcit, so it's pretty safe. Arlington is more or less a college town, which is also safe - have fun!

A good friend of mine used to live there. I have no clue about where to stay but can make some restaurant suggestions. Shanghai Village is very good chinese restaurant in the center of town. Food is super fresh and very good.

I don't recall the name of it, but my friend would take out pasteries from a bakery near there on Mass. Ave that were out of this world. I'd keep my eyes out for it.

Jimmy's Steer House is consistently good....basically a steak house but they do everything well. Somewhat old fashioned decor but great food.

And if you like Greek food there is another no frills but excellent and reasonably priced place in nearby Lexinton called the Athenian. Their salad dressing so so awesome I used to buy bottles of it that they sell at the restaurant.

The Blue Ribbon BBQ mentioned above is very good as well.

And one more suggestion. Spy Pond is a charming pond in Arlington with a bike and walking path. I'd definately suggest taking a stroll there. It's lovely.

There are no hotels or motels in Arlington but there may well be bed and breakfasts. Check out Boston B&B listings.

There are many good and even fine restaurants lining Arlington's main drag, Massachusetts Avenue.
