I just had this idea of making a postcard that I could mail. I am not crafsty at all...but I would like to try and make one. I want to make one that I can mail out w/ no problems.
I have never been to Kinkos, do I need to go there? (I have heard of ppl who go and make collages, fliers, etc...maybe I should post a separate question to Kinkos.)
I just saw a similar question that mentioned cardstock...what's that?
Or maybe I should use adobe photoshop or something.
I want IDEAS and then I need INSTRUCTIONS....
I'd make a postcard w/ a pictrue, drawing or painting...maybe photocopies and mail it out to my friend. I want to buy like a postcard you'd buy on vacation.
Puhlease...any ideas that you have? I want something beautiful!
thank you :)

I found postcards that you can get at Staples, they come in sheets that are perforated so you can tear them apart. Decorate one side. Then on the other side where you'd write; I found a stamp at hobby lobby that sets up the mailing & writing side. It seperates the sides where one side is addressable, an the other side is for you to write on.

Cardstock paper is a heavier paper than you would use for normal copying. It's stiff and is good for cards, bookmarks, recipe cards, and postcards.
I take pictures of flowers, waterfalls, etc, then in my computer's photo program, I make 4 to a sheet of 8 1/2 X 11 paper, which would be 4 postcards.
You could also have someone do it for you (Kinko's).

Begin with looking at what you have! A computer!
There are a ton of beautiful scenic photos available online for free, animals, people, places... just about anything you like is available online or free..do a search for FREE graphics--
or if you scan, scan a photo into the computer, or take a photo yourself.
print on cardstock-- heavy weight paper, regular text paper is 24 lb, you need either 60 or 80 lb. stock-- check Kinkos', wal-mart, staples, office max, any of them have it, you also need nice glossy photo stock paper.. also available at above mentioned stores.
postcard size is 5 1/2x4 1/4, but double check at postoffice.
making your own cards/postcards is easy and fun.
enjoy!

You certainly could use photoshop. Print out a picture that you like and bring it to the post office. Now cardstock is certain types of paper. Could be glossy, matte, opaque with various thickness to it. So when printing companies refer to it, that is all it means. Normal white paper is usually called 60 pound white offset as an example.
