I am suppose to renew my tabson my car every July. Last year I was late and received a citation for expired tabs. I went in and got new tabs right away and set up an appointment that same day to attempt to lower my fine. Whe I spoke iwth someone, I asked to have the amount lowered because I couldn't afford to pay the whole amount at that time. The denied my request, so I had to wait until I had the money.

I DID end up paying my fine. I wrote a check and made sure it cleared my account before I threw out the notice. On the notice, it said I may incur extra fees and have my license suspended if I didn't pay by the due date, but I did not receive any additional notices confirming my license was actually suspended.

Over the weekend, I was stopped while entering the parking lot of my apartment building, which is how I found out.

Knowing this, does it sound like I have a chance that this will be dismissed? The reason I'm conerned is because it will cause a misdomeanor on my name..

I spoke with my insurance company an they didn't even receive notice during my renewal last month. And the notice said I MAY incur extra fines and have my license suspended, but they never said it was!

And if I go back with my license re-instated, the citation states that is guilty plea! Had I known I was suspended I wouldn't have drove, like today I didn't drive and not all weekend either.

Obtain a copy of your cancelled check paying the fine and take it to court with you. Hopefully the judge will dismiss the case. But if you incurred extra fees because of late payment of the fine, you may not have the outcome you want.

You may have a chance, but it will depend on certain factors. You stated that if you didn't pay the fine before a certain date your license would be suspended. Did you pay it before the due date, and can you prove it.

If your license is suspended you should have received a letter informing you that your license was suspended, did you get the letter, if you did and you knew you were suspended there isn't much you can do. If you never recieved a letter, can you prove you never recieved a letter. Is your mailing address the same address that appears on your lecense. Remember, in court, it doesn't matter what you know, just what you can prove. Best of luck.

I would go to the bank and get a copy of the check that you wrote to pay the notice and then go back to dmv and see if they have a copy on file that you paid. If you can pull those two things together then I thing you have a good chance of getting these charged droped. DMV keeps everything. Good Luck also check with your insurance company they should of received notice that your license were suspended

On what grounds do you think this would be dismissed? You know you paid late, you know that paying late causes additional penalties including license suspension, and you kept on driving. This will go on your record, will cause you additional fines, plus your insurance costs will skyrocket.

My advice is show up to court with your license re-instated. If you do, they will dismiss the case. Trust me ive been there.

Go to your bank and ask them to print out a photocopy of the check. That way you have evidence you paid it.
