I've always heard that gun owners are more likely to have their guns used on themselves, or a loved one than on some burglar coming to rob their houses.

this is a very old phrase but, "If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns."

Also, if all the guns were destroyed, then the country with the most slingshots would rule the world. i.e. ~ people would hurt each other no matter what they had.

There are 2 things that muggers and thieves are afraid of; first is that the victim won't have anything worth stealing. Second is that the victim could overpower the thief. If the victim is armed, he or she wouldn't be just a victim anymore, right?

Another issue is hunting. If you are not allowed to hunt, then the government would force you to buy from restaurants or grocery stores, limiting your right to choose. Would they take away knives then, because i know some people who could use a blade to hurt someone more quietly than with just a gun.
What needs to happen is education about guns. Kids get killed year after year because they don't understand how to use a gun properly. They don't understand it, so they play with it, then somebody got shot because the dad wasn't educated enough to get a lock on the gun.

According to the Constitution of the United States of America, Guns should be legal and governments cannot try to take away the right to bear arms. This is a check and balance aganist tyrranical governments. This allows citizens to defend themselves and rise up against abuse of power by corrupt and opressive governments.

This is a fundamental right of a U.S. Citizen. What they do with the gun, however, is subject to law. If they don't use guns to hurt others, then they are not breaking any laws.

It's not the guns that kill people. It's people that kill people. You don't need a gun to kill someone. If you feel that you don't like guns, you can choose not to own one. But just because you choose not to have one doesn't mean others should not have it.

I'm a liberal, so the stereotypes would dictate that I'm anti-gun. I'm not, though. I don't own a gun (never saw a particular need to have one), and I don't hunt (I *like* animals), but I guess that I really don't have a problem -- one way or another -- with people who own guns or with people who want to protect that right. It's just not a big issue for me. I sort of figure that the truly dangerous and/or deranged people who *want* guns will manage to get them, whether they're legal or not. Admittedly, there ARE a bunch of "gun nuts" out there (for lack of a better term), who seem to go a bit over-board in their *love* of guns, and in their fights against sensible gun laws (why on earth would ANYONE need to get a gun immediately, with no background check?? there simply is NO legitimate reason!). I don't understand *those* sorts of extremists, and I don't particularly want to hang out with them, but as long as they stay away from me, well, I guess it's their business. I actually think that a lot of liberals (like me) feel that the whole "gun issue" is pretty far down on our list of priorities. And there are even a number of liberals who own and *like* their guns. :)

My use of guns is not for that purpose, I keep guns around for collection and hunting and target. I have owned at least one gun since I was 9 and have never harmed another human in any way. I am 61 now and still enjoy a good hunt. So do you want to take my gun away from me?

Guns ARE legal. A hand full of idiots use them to kill people or themselves and the rest of the good hard-working Americans have to pay for their stupidity. It isn't guns that kill people ... it's people kill people - mostly out of uncontrollable hate and mental illness. Don't forget about the 2nd Amendment of the US Constitution. You ought to read it - better yet, STUDY it so you KNOW what rights you have before you speak again!!!

Governments should be afraid of their people not the other way around so yes I think guns should be legal.

guns should be legal. Even if they were not legal criminals would still have them. People in general should be more smart with their guns and more gun education could benefit everyone. But alcohol kills many people and it is still legal.

Actually guns are legal, it is just that you need permits to carry them.

If you even for a minute think about relinquishing your Constitutional Right to bear arms; then you may as well be living in a Communist State!
