Pledge is to learn by practice. To pledge is a solemn promise to do or refrain from doing. Paper is to learn by theory. To be paper is an agreement to do or refrain from doing. The “benefits” of either is in honoring the membership with the promises made.

I haven't pledge but I am considering it.My aunt pledge Delta Sigma Theta and she told me that you get to earn sisterhood. You also feel more empowerment by meeting other African American women in college with great education and the history behind that greatness.More than likely I will pledge the same because she show pride in it and I want that same experience as her.

It's nice that you were interested in the question person above but it doesn't really give an answer.

Pledge: To go through a rough process in which you earn your letters. Overcoming challenges as a line and learning to work together while learning about your chosen organization.

Paper: Signing a contract and being initiated into an organization without doing any of the work.

Having to "earn" letters is usually hazing. It should not be a rough or detrimental process for a provisional new member. I hope that the person who posted above does not belong to a chapter that hazes its members.
