we are all equal but some races are more equal than others. Therefore it is necessary to find out what race you are so that ( if you are one of the more equal races) you can be fast tracked into whatever job or class you are applying for because we are required to have a quota of the more equal races to show that all races are equal. We used to just pick people based on merit and ability but that system somehow didn't fit the governments system of ' enforced equality"

Usually, they use the information for statistical purposes that some agency (usually governmental) requires them to keep. I work at a school & every term we have a statistical breakdown of the # of students & the # of hours by race & by gender, because we are REQUIRED to.

Just about every "affirmative action" employer/school would need to have to ask for that information. As far as being sick of it, what really get me is any employer who claims to be "equal opportunity" and "affirmative action". Think about it. It's impossible to be both.

Why should you have to check sex (M or F)? The reason is, an employer needs to know who the hell they are hiring. If you are a qualified applicant, than it should not bother you.

You bet and this should be abolished cause it is also offends me as well. I used to think that by checking my color it made a difference in the hiring process.
