Build up confidence by practicing. Practicing makes perfect. If someone says something bad, take it as a complement. Use the bad comment to make yourself faster.

well it sounds like you would be more comfortable in a jammer, if some rude idiot makes a comment ignore them, or maybe tell them that atleast you feel confident in yourself to wear one. Overstockswimsuits.com and Swimsuitdiscounters.com has a good variety of cheap jammers

It was expensive to get my confidence back. I was a late hair bloomer. I didn't grow body hair until I turned 20. I had the happiest times swimming, and being able to see my washboard stomach on the mirros, seeing my pecs toned. It all went down when I grew hair. I could no longer se emy washboard stomach, I just lost interest and stopped swimming for years. I wans't until I decided I missed swimming a lot, and I missed being able to see the results from my training.
I decided to get laser hair removal. Today I'm so comfortable in a speedo. I took me a while, I could only wear trunks for a while because I was out of shape, but even so I felt so comfortable being hairless, and now I got back in shape. I love the feeling of being able to see my stomach muscles on the mirrors and my pecs.

Laser hair removal got me my confidence back.

Believe me, I was in the same position as you when I joined my local swim club. Just go out there thinking that no one will even care what you look like.
By the way, www.swimoutlet.com has great prices on swimsuits+gear, so I would check it out if I were you!

we always wore "drag suits." you can get them from any competition swimming catalogue. they're helpful in that you can practice in them and they provide extra resistance, and you can also warm up in them at the meets. you don't have to "strip down" to your speedo until your event and you're right there at the block. lot's of folks i swam with/against did this. they cover a little more than a speedo does, and they also provide some texture so that everything isn't so defined...

i really don't think you should be worried, people are probably just as scared as you are, and if they say anything just ignore them, they are just abit dumb if they are taking the micky of somebody elses appearance. You are just abit nervous and self concious about your body, but if you aer in competitions, you probably have a 6 pack! Hope you have a good time at the competitions ! Good luck

Oh for goodness sakes. No one cares!

We are all too busy doing laps to catch more than a glimpse of anyone.

You obviously haven't been in a locker room after a lap swim. Sag, drag, guts, cellulite (women anyway), wrinkles, funky tan lines.

Get over it.

if some one makes a bad comment punch em in the ball sack! ha jk. but really if some one says somthing bad (which most guys wont) then just either kick their @$$ in a race, have a witty come back ready, turn the sad/anger into power and try harder, or just flip em the bird and walk away.

if someone makes a rude comment, just yell why the hel* are you staring at my crotch??? really loud, then they will get scared and run away. or, just to be mean, yell oh my gosh (insert name here), you got a SEX CHANGE?!!!!!! that should shut him/her up. to build up comfidence, wear it under your clothes( the speedo i mean) and then you will be confident enough, otherwise, just do it, everyone else on your team has to do it too, your all swimmers, why should they care what you wear?
