C. the most important fn. of the lungs is gas exchange. it takes in oxygen from the atmosphere and saturates the haemoglobin in the blood to be sent to the various tissues in the body which require the same for vital metabolic processes and at the same time withdraw the carbon dioxide brought to the alveoli in the lung through blood from the tissues where it formed as a waste metabolite.
