Chemistry is not a prerequisite for biology -- they're two separate studies in science, although it's true that they are linked.
Most colleges do not have a preference which one you study first, and if they do, it would be specific to that college. It probably doesn't matter which you take first.
Check the website for the school you're looking at under the science departments to see if there are any specific requirements.

From my experience. I am a current freshman in college. I am failing Biology including the lab. Why? Well it's because of the chemistry that is in Biology. The last time I took Chemistry was 10th grade, first trimester and third trimester. 3rd trimester sucked considering there was a huge gap so I forgot everything and ended up failing. Same problem here, except now it's a 3-4 year gap. I don't know why, but Chemistry keeps coming to bite me. Yes I feel like Chemistry should be taught before you take biology. Honestly, if I knew about how chemistry was in every topic in science, I would've picked it as my Major, not Biology. I don't know if I should. But I don't think that's smart. I answered 10 years late, hope you read this. I assume you've long since graduated and may even have a family. Well, have a good life!

My college requires that you have taken a semster of general chem and a year of organic chemistry (may be taken concurrently) before taking any biology class. There is a little bit of organic chem involves in biology, but not that much. You can probably survive bio without taking organic chemistry.

Usually it is a good idea to take at least an intro course in chemistry before, or at the very least, concurrently with biology. There actually is a lot of chem-related stuff in biology: i.e. synthesis, DNA, RNA, sugars, etc. I took them together, and I had a very hard time of it, even though I took 2 years of bio and 2 and a half years of chem in high school, with a 3.96 GPA. Good luck!

In mine, I had Bio I, then Chem I and you couldn't get into Bio II without Chem I.
