Yes IPod uses mostly either Mp3 or aac format which can be opened in media player .. if it can't go to microsoft and get the latest version ( version 11 )
Some Itunes songs are protected though . But you can set media player to copy protected music
Open media player and then open the file you want in your Itune library
In your window's media properties you can change the setting to whatever format you want wma is windows media foramt but I would leave them in mp3 unless you have another reason for doing so
Open the tools menu in media player then go to options
Then go to rip music and you will see your options as to saving or converting music ..
then after you have done that save your song in another folder ...

if the song is on the ipod, then all you got to do is find a software that can take the song and transfer it to your desktop! all the files on the ipod is all kinda weared, all named really weared and ll put in a strange folder! after that, you take windows media and convert it with the player or you can download a converter!

I wouldn't convert the files to WMA format (and I don't know how to do that). I would convert them to MP3 which will play on Windows Media Player.
I use tuneBite (link below) to convert all of my DRM protected music to MP3, so that I can play it anywhere that I want.

It also converts between all audio formats consisting of MP3, MP2, AAC, AC3, WAV, MID, MIDI, WMA, M4A, RA, RAM, OGG, APE, AU, FLAC . wish it helps!
