I grew up in the country, so I know that if you are planning on trapping/handling rattlesnakes, you need training by a professional. The venom is deadly in very small amounts without medical attention. As far as rattlers in the wild, they are very tricky, and can look like a branch lying across a trail. Just before the strike is when you would hear the rattle but not always. Anyways, be careful when you are dealing with a venomous snake, and if going out in the wilderness make sure you have a snakebite kit and a GPS for emergency location if you need it. Good luck with whatever you are up to.

You need to be more specific with this question. I have 50 years working with rattlesnakes (and others). WHAT kind of training are you looking for ? I will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability. You can contact me directly, if you wish..

The rattler can extend itself and strike a target up to half it's body length away (as opposed to a cobra who can only rise up and 'fall' at it's target). There are several species of rattlesnake that vary widely in their potency of venom. Most rattlers venom is hemotoxic (destroying tissue) which means you want to get aid right away. A few species have neurotoxins can cause paralysis or shut down the nervous system. A small rattler has enough venom to kill a human so size is not an indicator as to how deadly a rattler is.

What job requires rattlesnake training? maybe you should find a new line of work.
Anyway they are poisinous. They really aren't all that deadly, will make you swell up really bad and make you feel horrible. Their bites are easily treatable these days.

Rattle snakes should not be handled for entertainment. Ifyou do not know much about them then you should not be using them in what ever kind of training you do. I live in the desert, it's one of the rules we follow. NOT to mess with them.
