I've just had an opportunity handed to me and I'm not quite sure what I should do. My best friend works at a dealership in the next town and she offered me a job working for her in accounting. Everything seems to be great about it... It's WAY closer to home than my current job, it will almost double my salary and include benifits, it's something that I would enjoy doing much more than property management, and with the pay increase, I could afford college and could actually get my degree, not to mention I wouldn't have to talk to any customers. The delema I'm having is leaving my current job. I love the people I work with. They are the only reason I'm still working here. I feel a loyalty to them and don't want to leave them stranded. I know that they would be able to fill my position, but it wouldn't be easy to find someone to do everything I do for the pay I receive. I would feel terrible if I left them hanging.

you already know the answer.
you're just looking for reinforcement. you need to be loyal to yourself, first. if those people are really your friends they'll be happy for you. and if you're doing the work of three people for the price of one, as you implied, then they're taking advantage of you. people are naturally afraid of change, but if you look at any successful people you'll find one thing that they all have in common. they weren't afraid to take a chance.

funny that I saw this. i was in the same position last year (i didn't like them all, but the ones I did like were the reason I stayed). You have to accept better opportunities when they come along. You can still keep in touch with those people if you wish, but there is always someone who needs a job. If this new job is going to be a better fit for you - you should go for it. Loyalty to the co. is always a good thing but sometimes you have to take the better opportunity. I didn't take the better one and ended up getting laid off like a month later. I was pissed....

It sounds like you have received a good opportunity. Feelings aside, why would you want to pass it up? In ten years' time when all your current work colleagues have moved on, will you stlll be there?

You have to take it. It is much better for you and you will be replaced at your last place. Tough to hear, I know, but it makes sense. They will cope without you!
