She knew they would be starting to worry now, furtively glancing at the clock and counting back the hours to when she was last seen. She knew her mobile phone lay, unplugged, in a drawer in her bedroom; its silence causing angry patches to appear on her father's pale face. She knew all of these things, but she did not care.
Let them worry. Let them feel the cold pebble of fear. Let them cry, as she had done so many times in her lonely bedroom..

- The extract is about a girl called Sarah who seems to have run away from home. Why would her parents be 'furtively' glancing at the clock? Anything else noticeable and interesting about the text - the literary devices used to create the mood/scene?

Thanks!
Lorna

The literary part that I find interesting, is how the way the whole thing is written with a mind that is racing! Furtively glancing at the clock because the parents are worrying about where SHE is, really worried about her, as the time passes.
