my daughter is 9 and she does the same thing she even takes food and i know for a fact that she gets enough food during the day .maybe this is just a phase that they go through and they will get over it .lately my daughter has slowed because i told her that if she takes one more thing out of a store that i will allow them to take her to jail and that scared her so we can now shop without having to constantly watch her.

It is still stealing today. But before you get all crazy on your daughter, keep in mind that she doesn't yet have the impulse control to stop her from taking things that don't belong to her. (who at that age hasn't stolen SOMTHING?) It's important to tell her what she did was wrong, but you can't really punish her for the crime. I would make her return the item and apologize though. It might be a good idea to have her go through some of her things and hand out old toys, clothes and such to needy children so she can see what it is like to truly need something and that might teach her a lesson about self control. But otherwise, don't check her into juvenile detention just yet. Hope this helps

My daughter recently stayed at a classmate's house for the night and when she came home she showed me a $50 bill and a 'note' from the girl's mother saying my daughter won the money playing a game. My husband and I immediately knew something was wrong and we drove back to this girl's house. My husband asked the father if they were missing any money. He checked his wallet and he was fine. But he mentioned that his daughter had a $50 bill in her wallet. Sure enough it was missing. You cannot imagine our shock and disappointment. We made our daughter apologize and the father was nice enough to have his daughter keep the situation between them and not say anything at school. My daughter lost out on a trip to Orlando in December at the Nickelodeon Hotel due to this. I later found out that my daughter thought I was buying everything for my 18 year old son, though I wasn't because he has a full time job. Once she realized this, we haven't had any problems with her, but were still very disappointed for a long time after this happened.

I have a problem with a Ten-Year old ANYBODY stealing things, if u know this child please get her some serious shrink time, chances are she is displaying this behaviour because of some underlying feeling she has, my little sister did it because she felt that we were all gonna go away & leave her and she used to steal pets to "keep her company when we were gone", we got her into therapy, bought her a pet dog, told her we weren't going anywhere soon and she is now living the life of an average 10-year-old sweetheart.

You have to crack down on her, because if you don't she will end up going to jail when she tries to shoplift. Stores are really cracking down on this. When she steals something make her take it back and apologize to the person. My mom did this when I was 5 years-old and stole a candy bar from a store and I was terrified, but I never stole again.

Depends. What is she stealing? If she is taking things from friends or relatives, thats one thing. If she is taking things from stores or something, then thats much worse.
Before you crack down and punish her, find out why she is doing it. Maybe she finds stealing to be something that makes her seem older, or maybe she is taking things she has always wanted to have. But if its kleptomania, you may want to see a doctor.

hey, you made it not have a question mark (?) at the end! OMG that's impossible! wat type of glitch would allow that??
If a 10 year old girl does that repeatedly punish her each time she does it. The more freaquntly it goes on the harsher the punishment.
Like a time out for the occasional, to no TV for a day if she does it a few times a week, to a time out and no TV for a week if it happens once or twice a day.
another idea is no computer.

Tell her the jail is full of people that started taking little things that did not belong to them. Look to your future what do you want to be.Surely not a thief.
