ok i have a 93' civic ex standard transmission, and yesterday when i got 10 bucks worth of gas after a awhile it started making a weird noise when it idles and it doesnt have as much speed as it did, im assuming it has to do with the wiring/spark plugs so i bought some...I'm not very good with cars should I just have a mechanic put in the new spark plugs, or should i try it myself?

Okay first, I want you to ignore the dude that told you to gap your plugs. Most spark plugs you buy are pre-gapped so that you don't have to mess with it. Granted that there are a lot of different things that could have caused the symptoms you're describing, changing your spark plugs wouldn't hurt if you haven't done it in a long time. You'll need a set of 4 spark plugs, just go up to the counter and ask the clerk or look behind the packaging and make sure that it's pre-gapped and fits your Civic. You'll need a spark plug wrench, which is a long, deep socket wrench to take out the ones you have in (they should be relatively cheap). Unplug the wires from the head, and take the plugs out one by one, you'll want to probably examine them. Reference them to this chart: http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/techinfo/spark_plugs/faq/faqread2.asp

Then installing the new is just reverse from the removal.

Try it yourself. Just be sure to gap the plugs before you put them in. You will need a set of feeler gauges. Check the owners manual for the correct gap setting.
