I've actually heard it's fairly common for those who like to spice up their masturbatory habits.
If I'm not mistaken, I think there was a deleted scene in "Me, Myself, and Irene" where Jim Carey stuck a watermelon into the oven, and then later we see the hollowed out watermelon with a hole in it roll from his bed.
