I am currently in the process of completing up my doula certification. Part of the requirement to do so is to attend a doula for 3 births. I am planning on offering my services free to be able to gain more experience. I've already worked with some families and done lots of training so I feel comfortable about it, but wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to how to gain clients. I'm working in the San Diego area and not really picky about who I work with, I just need families that are wanting a doula, but can't afford one. Any suggestions how to market this?

Local women's clinic bulletin board. Or you could make up some cheap business cards and tell the people at the front desk of an office that you're looking for clients to work for (for free). I'm sure you'll get some calls.

I think doulas are great! I was a "practice" patient for my friend who was getting certified. She was a huge help! I think it's a great and much-needed service for women, especially first time Mom's who might be scared. I would maybe go by a natural birthing clinic in the area as well and ask if you can post a flyer. Tell the receptionist your situation and I'm sure they'll refer people to you.

Best wishes!

observe to the distinctive different posters, she's not a start mom - she's a pregnant woman who's considering making an adoption plan. ~places cleansing soap container away~ If I have been the doula, i could purely be there for the customer. If the excuses for the adoption plan is economic, perhaps help her with aspects that could enable her to make certain. i could grant suggestions with finding a counselor for her who specializes in this actual venture. There are a lot of first mom and widespread father blogs, adoptive make certain blogs that she will benefit some perception.

Maybe post on craigslist - or - go to a hospital in your area and leave your name with a couple of doctor's offices. Ask anyone in your network that you know if they know any pregnant people and tell them you would offer free services.

Tell all your friends.

We have a friend that will be coming to our birth so she can get her certification. She told us way before we ever thought of getting pregnant, but when we did become pregnant, we knew it was something she was hoping for, and invited her to come.
