Yes, it's called glucosamine chondroitan, marketed under various brand names such as Osteo-Biflex, but generics work just as well. I personally don't use it, but I've known many many people who take it and doctors who recommend it. It works to help keep cartilage flexible and lubricate your joints. You're wise to worry about taking too much ibuprofen as well, it can eventually cause stomach problems.
The only catch is if you're diabetic... talk to your doctor before you take it as it can impact blood sugar. But other than that, it's a great medicine and definitely worth a try!!
Good luck and best wishes!!!

It all depends on the cause of your arthritis (that is, is it osteoarthritis, Rheumatoid arthritis, climate induced, other?)
The best thing for pain caused by all arthritis (with the exception of Rheumatoid) is movement! I won't get into the physiological aspect of this, unless you ask, but I recommend a low impact exercise. The best (in my opinion) is water. Water aerobics is great for arthritis, because the water helps to decrease the amount of weight on your joints, thus making it easier to move! If water's not your thing, think about Pilates or Yoga. Many positions can be modified if they cause you pain; a good instructor would know how.
Check for water arobics in your area, and give it a try! The YWCA usually has great programs.
Good luck to you!

Supplements can definitely help control arthritis. However the best natural remedy would have to be through diet and exercise.
I can almost hear you groaning as you read that... and I truly understand how you must hate hearing this again, and I know all the reasons why you can't.... but you can! I can't stress to you how life altering a healthy diet and daily exercise, (in particular I recommend Yoga) will impact your life.
Yoga will not only help you with the physical limitations and pain and loss of mobility that this disease brings, but it will also provide you with the tools to deal emotionally with the loss to quality of life.

I have TMJ, nerve damage in my lower back and arthritis in my hands and I was told I would be in pain forever. I take Isotonix OPC-3 antioxidant by Market America at marketamerica.com/naturalelements. Not kidding you, within 5 days of taking it, I hardly had any pain at all in my whole body!! It is awesome! Very easy to take, 95% absorption rate and it's great for other things like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, heart disease, reproductive system and so much more!

Hi,
Have you ever heard of Himalayan Goji Juice? Extensive scientific research over the past 20 years has shown that, in acute and chronic inflammation, the free radical superoxide is produced at a rate that overwhelms the capacity of the body’s SOD enzyme defense system to remove them. Such an imbalance results in pain and damage to joints and tissues. Goji can restore the balance of the important anti-inflammatory SOD enzyme.

This works great for me! My MD said do not eat the five white things: milk products, flour, sugar, salt, fat (especially anything that has been fried) Another MD suggested get a variety of green vegetables (specially the leaves), cover with lots of water, boil for an hour and drink. My research told me to eat most vegetables. I flavor with Miso, purchased at health food store of Asian markets. I have no pain with above.

I don't have arthritis, but I have something related and I find that 3000mg of MSM a day really helps my knee stop creaking. It's like night and day, I can actually go down stairs at a normal pace without holding the railing. My doc said that you can take it all at once or 1500mg twice a day, I do all at once. Hope you find some relief.
