Don't let anyone kid you, it's not normal nor is it healthy for your mate to have a best friend of the opposite sex... my wife is also my best friend, I would have it no other way... I certainly don't "need" to have a female friend, it only invites something more... if you're spouse tells you the other person is "just a friend," I would tell that spouse to end that friendship quickly, it will certainly ruin your marriage... a married couple should be each other's best friend, this is what makes a marriage work...

Keep reading yahoo answers and you'll come to the conclusion that it is way too risky. It is a rare woman or man who is completely comfortable with her mate talking about intimate things with someone of the opposite sex. One minute your just friends and the next you're having an emotional affair.

Yes. I think to have a best friend it would be risky. Because you always tell your best friend more than just a friend. And your significant other will feel deprived of a relationship. To have friends of the opposite sex is fine. I have friends that are guys, but we, my husband and I, hang out with him and his significant other. There is a difference. The only best friend you should have of the opposite sex should be your mate. :)

I have been in a relationship for 2 years now, and my boyfriends best friend is a married woman, and we all get together and its just fine, they are like brother and sisters, he has many friends that are women and I have no problem with it, I have met them and we have talked... and I think that is the key that you have to make everyone involved... making it secretive and hiding stuff is where the problem starts and the trust is lost...

Yes. Sorry but unless the other person is gay, there is no such thing as a "best friend" of the opposite sex. One or both always want it to be more!

How could that be seen as unhealthy? As long as it's just a friendship than its fine. This is where that lovely thing called faith & trust come into play.

Yes - Especially men - They NEVER have a "best friend" of the opposite sex unless they have at least a considerable interest in them at the sexual level. Guys want to do "guy things," which is only trumped by sexual things.

what you're really asking is: do I feel extremely jealous of any other woman being my mate's best friend? I'd say so! Don't get mad, get even.

I would like very much to say yes, but the fact that everytime someone is cheating they say, "we are just friends" would leave me the only option to say "no".
