checked relays, direct jump from pos battery connector turns fan on but fan will not turn on when engine gets hot.

It's near the thermostat.
Follow the top radiator hose to the engine. Within 3" radius or so, you should find the sensor.

Usually, depending on the vehicle, it's controlled by the thermostat, which is plugged directly into the engine itself. If you look at the wiring schematic, you should be able to locate where it's at. Sometimes, however, it's the fan itself; usually, you can check it by running a continuity check. Of course, if it's been a while since the oil or coolant has been changed, that may cause problems, as well; you may wish to have the coolant checked during your next change. If the weather's warming up quickly where you're at, it may be time for a flush.
