I'm going to be 8 months really soon and i'm starting to get scared of knowing whats going to happen when i go in labor! and when do i know when to go to the hospital, cause my aunt said that they told her to go back home for a while and come back, so how far apart should my contractions be when i know its time to go??? and if my water brakes does that mean to go right away or no??

The water only breaks before women get to the hospital around 10% of the time (not every time like you see on movies/tv) But if your water breaks then you go to the hospital right away no matter if you are having contractions or not.

My hospital only wants you to come up if you are having contractions 5 min apart. And really - there's no reason to go earlier than that. You'll be more comfortable at home. As soon as you go to the hospital they start poking you! lol

You will know when your labor is starting. Your contractions will be constant. When mine started, I got a pad of paper, pen and a timer. I wrote down the time of each contraction, and the minutes in between. When they got 3 min apart. I went in to the hospital. The longer you stay at home the better because the doctors, and nurses don't let you do anything. Like walking around or eating. All they give you are ice chips to eat. Blah.... But if your water breaks you HAVE to go to the hospital right away because that means you and your baby are open to infection if the baby is not delivered within 24 hours. good luck!!! and enjoy motherhood!!

I went to the hospital 2 times before I had my daughter. I lived over an hour away so I did not want to take any chances. I timed contractions and waited until they were 7-8 min. apart for 2 hrs and went. Then when I got there, they quit. I apologized to the nurse and she told me that it was better safe than sorry. Nobody wants to have their baby at home!! Go if your water breaks, ASAP. I went back the day b/f I had my baby and the sent me home. I was back at 2:00 that morning and had her that day. Use your judgement. If you feel like you need to go, do it. This might be your first baby but you will know when your body is telling you something. I had an epidural. That was such a relief. Best of luck!!

If your water breaks go in right away. Being in the hospital will help prevent infections from happening. A lot of docs have the 4-1-1 rule. Four contractions in one hour that last one minute. That is really a good rule to go by. If you feel that you need to go in sooner the worst thing will be that they send you home for a few hours. That isn't a big deal and that happens to a lot of people. Also when the contractions are to painful to talk through it would be a good time to go in. Good luck and you will do fine!!

You should really talk to your doc about this. But with my experience, my doc said to go to the hospital when my contractions reach 5 minutes apart for an hour. And he said if my water broke to go to hospital then. This is pretty much what most docs will tell you depending on how far away you are from the hospital. Don't be scared, you'll know when it's time. Congrats on your baby!!!

You might want to contact the hospital you plan to deliver at, or a local birthing center to see if you can take a birthing class. Your doctor might also be able to recommend one.

A good class will walk you through all the stages of labor, and discuss possible medical intervention (forceps, vac-extractors, emergency c-section) and pain relief options so that by the time you get to the hospital you will understand what is happening both to you and around you.

My personal recommendation is for a class that will cover multiple techniques (Bradley, Lamaze etc.), so you can get a good idea of some of the strategies that are out there for labor and delivery and pain management, and get a feel for which ones might be right for you.

Knowledge is power! Good luck!

Okay slow down and relax. Of course if your water breaks you need to go right away. I've had three kids and my water didn't break until right before I had them. With my first as soon as I was in pain I went to the hospital. Of course they sent me right back home. When they finally admitted me I was there for another 7 hours and that was the worst wait of my life. With my second son I waited all day until 5am the next morning and I went and had my son at 5:20. With my third I went to the hospital at noon and had him at 4pm. I waited it out as long as possible and then I went. Please believe me you'll know when its time because your pains will get stronger and come closer and closer. I would wait until they are at least 5 or 10 minutes apart. I hope all that helps. Good luck and keep us posted.

My youngster was once close to per week past due. A couple of days earlier than I went into exertions I spotted that my stomach dropped. Other than that I did not become aware of whatever conclusive (even though I felt one-of-a-kind bizarre matters day-to-day) till I awoke within the core of the night time, abruptly very conscious, and by some means controlled to run to the toilet earlier than my water broke all of the manner. After that a few tiny contractions began, and we went to the clinic within the morning, however exertions was once sluggish to development, regardless of running, therapeutic massage, acupressure, and the whole thing else we would consider of. He was once born, despite the fact that, forty six hours and far pitocin later. I'll you what, there's not anything on the planet like exertions!
