The W words are What, Which, Why, Where, When and How.
When I was in Grade1, they had a poster of 5 W words, on one of the W words they put a piece of paper over it, and wrote How on it. We could not the word that was there before the paper covered. But later on some teachers say they are 5 W words (What, Which, Why, Where, When), others say 5 W words (Which, Why, Where, When, How), and others say 6.
Today, I am still wondering about this. I believe that they are 6, but I wonder if I am right.
Other than figuring this out, what is the history of behind the "W" words? Did someone decide that What was not a "W" word anymore, and replaced with HOW, or what happened with what or what did happen?

I took a general journalism class in college and it was who, what, where, when, why and how. By definition the which would be the same as who, so that 6 word list is duplicated.

The history of the w words is that they used to be h words in old english--hwat, hwen, etc but it got changed allegedly by a transcription mistake but this has not been proved. Is that what you mean by history? Other than that, the history would be in the journalism previously mentioned.

I never heard of WHICH being one of the "W" words, I always thought it was WHO. HOW doesn't even start with "W", but it has a "W" in it. I guess things change, it used to be WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, and WHY.
