I have an ati x1800xt 512mb video card and a 3.0 p4 cpu. I play games like Lock on and Armed Assault and I notice that my frames per second drop to the teens when shadows are enabled. Is my graphix card the problem or is my cpu not powerful enough?

I'm t hinking about buyign an E6600 Core 2 duo but will that take care of the shadow problem?

Shadowing is usually GPU Dependant. The specs for this card show:

Z/stencil cache optimized for real-time shadow rendering

I would start by looking at free memory at this point. Kill unneeded processes (Search CastleCops to see what you can kill from your startup or search for BlackViper for further info). Also you should have at least 1 Gig RAM on your motherboard as a personal minimum.

To be honest it would be a combination of the CPU and the GPU (graphics card).

Remember when you're running a game on the PC, Windows is also running other processes/programs in the background. The GPU actually take alot of the graphic processes away from the CPU and perform it independantly.

Generally speaking, the limiter is the graphics card. Those are usually a little short in onboard memory causing the disruption during the rendering.
