Poss. TCC- is the check engine light on? TCC will set a code in the computer.
With 4T65E's commonly the 4th Clutch Hub splines strip. That will cause you to loose OD. Extreamly common problem with these transmissions.

stayc is right on with this one. The splines on your 4th gear clutch hub shaft are stripped. This same thing happened to my 01 Grand Prix. Buy this part: https://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=151&catid=105 and have a reputable transmission shop replace it.
FYI, it cost me about $1300 with the part, labor, fluids, etc. I believe they replaced some solenoids and stuff while they were in there too.

Check to see if you don't have an overdrive button with the logo (OD) on it and also check the dash board to see if the light OD is not on. If none of this aren't on present, you might be having a problem your planetary gear set. Not sure but check the trans .

Sounds as though the torque convertor "lock-up" solenoid has burned out. It's under the side cover of the transmission. I replaced mine on my 92 Grand Prix for about $60 with the new gasket. Good Luck! ;-)=
P.S. Check the wiring connector on the front of the side cover.

Same thing happened to me with my 1999 Grand Prix GT...ultimately, I had to get the transmission rebuilt for $3k.
Good luck!

THE 4T6OE TRANS WILL STRIP THE SPLINES OFF OF THE 4TH CLUTCH SHAFT (I'VE REPLACED MANY) THE REPLACEMENT PART IS HEAT TREATED & WILL NOT STRIP. IF IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER THERE WOULD BE A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIT ON
