Yes Microsoft is a monopoly. The US Supreme court determined that after hearing considerable evidence from both sides. The recomendation of the court was that Microsoft be broken up into smaller independent companies, however, President Bush reduced the sentence to community service (giving free copies of Microsoft products to school systems) and the promise by Microsoft that they would not use extortion to discourage the hardware makers from offering competing software products.
