the way he command ball and take lead,
his foot movement, speed, style of passing the football,

he was playing good in his last world cup until his team members reduced by the refree for helping the opponent team.

Maradona was the best of all time. Look he may have gotten away with the "hand of God". You can't fault him for cheating anymore than the overpaid guys of today who dive at the slightest of contact. Pele was great, but he had nowhere near the competition that Maradona had as a player. In the 80's Pele would never have dominated like he did in the 60's at his prime. Now if you wanted Pele as the answer you should have asked who changed the game the most with his style of play.

Without drugs, I believe Maradona could have been better than Pele. But Pele stayed pure to the game. He's the best.

the other guy was definitely right, maradona had much more competition than the others. He also won a world cup on drugs which is more astonishing than wrong. Pele isnt known for the best goal ever, he isnt known for the best cheated goal either so that makes maradona the best player ever by far.

maradona is the best player of his time so is pele so the only difference here is maradona is more game of total football compared to pele, the whole brasil squad played football....but final answer would be maradona cos he's the only man to win the world cup with his 1 man performance in mexico 86'...beat that pele.

I had the chance of watching both of them play at their prime and I must say that pele is by far a better player than maradona. the problem is that maradona came out in the era of mass media so chances are most people see far more about maradona than they do about pele for example, some people ignorantly argue that maradona had more competition? nothing could be further from the truth!! the worldcup in 1970 for example, go check out the teams and you will find that the world of soccer was far more competitive and even out than it is today. to watch brazil in that cup and pele in that cup is a testament to true greatness!! also, pele was surrounded by players who would in this day and age probably outshine maradona as well if not what do you think gerson, rivelinho, tostao, garrincha to mention a few were? the mere fact that pele was able to shine about so many stars is something maradona never did because he never had a chance to play in such a team!! btw, I am not brazilian and I am not an extreme fan of brazil but I have to say that pele -having watch him perform his magic in person a few times and over the tv set many others- is like muhammed ali and michael jordan emblematic of his sport for a reason. maradona is great but he is a few steps behind pele for sure.

Pele & maradona r both legends, to choose who is better is hard even impossible, they played in different decades in football. maradona played more recently that might be an advantage, but he also got into problems with drugs, so many ppl started hating him, but if u want to know who's better judge them in the way they played in the field. not by their shameful acts out of the field (maradona).

hello !!!

actually its difficult to single out one.
both are stalwarts;legends at that.
however it depends on the person & the period.
if you ask me,i haven't seen either play.
Maradona was at his peak in 1986,i wasn't even born then.
as for Pele,he belongs to earlier times.
my childhood hero is Ronaldo.
in 1998 when Brazil lost to France,i was in tears,i was only in 4th standard or so then.
about Pele & Maradona,i've only read & heard from elders.
i saw some old clips of Pele's times & ofcourse Maradona's ''hand of god''.
so the bottomline is:every period has its hero.
people who watch the hero of their period hero-worship him while those from the other generation worship the respective hero from their period.
i think Maradona could have done better without drugs.
as a child my cousin used to recite a poem,''lokkhi shona,
maradona,jibone aar drug niyona''.
(it means: Maradona ,i request you not to take drugs.)

cheers & god bless:-)
