I have a 94 VW Golf. I have a problem sometimes. It wont change into a new gear until I pump the clutch a few times. It uses brake fluid a little. I have had to refill it recently. Is it the clutch or the master cylinder?
Thanks.

Sounds like you have a leak... possible a bad master or slave cylinder. The master cylinder is there on the firewall, where the resoivor is. The slave is the one that actually works the clutch and it will either be in or on the bell housing somewhere. In the unfortunate event that it is in the bellhousing, you will have to pull the tranny to change it. If it wasn't losing fluid I would suggest you might have air in the line and just bleeding it like you do your brakes would solve that, but if your losing fluid you probably have a faulty component in there somewhere. Check the master cylinder and the fluid lines for leaks first... and make sure the bleeder valve is tight. If you still lose fluid it's probably a bad seal in the slave cylinder.

Good Luck!
