it depends on what you mean. Star Wars IV: a new Hope has been seen in theathers more then any other movie. then ad to the fact that 5 other movies in the series are in the top 25 movies by box office....Tititanic has made the most money at the box office. but if you really want the most successful films dollar per dollar they are blair witch project, and El Mariachi both of which were made on shoe string budgets, If I remerber right, Mariachi was made for $5,000 dollars and made over 200,000, and Blair witch was made for 30,000 and made over 300,000 by far the most dollar for dollar movies.

Forget Titanic, I think the most successful movie in history is STAR WARS. You don't see people dressed up as Kate Winslet do you? No, you see people dressed as Storm Troopers and Jedi 25 years after the movie came out. That's success man

How do you rate that?
Most seen? That's between "Gone With the Wind" and "The Wizard of Oz".
Most money made? Still "Titanic", although "Pirates 2" is a strong contender.
Most influential? "Citizen Kane"
You'll need to tighten your parameters

Titanic, but adjusted for inflation, The Exorcist was more successful. It may not be #1 though, but I know it's more successful than Titanic.
