My periods have ALWAYS been 100% regular, since I first got my period at age 13 until now (age 20). This month I have been experiencing stomach cramps for about three days and I'm due on. Usually I would just get cramp a few hours before. What's going on? I've had a lot of unprotected sex and I'm worried I may have an STI so I'm getting checked later this week. What should I do for now though?

Just to clear up - i'm definately NOT pregnant. And for those of you who were ignorant enough to jump to conclusions I have had unprotected sex with a long term, FEMALE partner. Honestly I thought this was a place I could feel comfortable talking to people, where they would be open-minded. You;ve really changed my mind about that. Anyway the risk is that I've only just found out she hasn't been tested, and she's been with other people before me. But thank you to those of you who were comforting and didn't immediately judge me. And thank you anyone who gave good advice. I will rest for tonight, and go to the doctor first thing tomorrow. x

It could be a lot of things, or it could be nothing. If you are stressed out, it can cause you to not get your period, or get it late. You could be pregnant, but if you are having cramping, probably not. You may have an infection, like a yeast infection or vaginitis. Or, it could be an STD, or a problem with your reproductive organs. (Cysts, etc.) The best thing for you to do is go to a gynocologist and get checked out, as soon as you can. Unless a Dr. examines you and tests you, it is hard to tell. I'd use a condom in the future, though, 1 out of every 4 people has some sort of STD! If you have unprotected sex, you can become pregnant or worse. Good luck, and hope you feel better.

Firstly try not to worry , you`ve done the right thing in making an appointment with your doctor. Apart from the risk of stis you dont mention what contraception you were using if any ie, the pill. Pleazze pleazze make sure you use condoms in future apart from the stress of worrying you might have caught something, theres a risk of pregnancy even on the pill! Having unprotected sex with numerous people also can increase the risk of cervical cancer. It really is that serious.
In the meantime, a hot water bottle and painkillers should relieve the stomach cramps. I hope you feel better soon and that your tests are negative. Take care, have fun but be safe! (God, Im going on a but now but its soooo important)

DON'T have any more unprotected sex!
Also, sometimes you will get cramps for more days before you start. At least you are doing the right thing and being checked out. Well done for that. You need to respect other people you may be passing things on to. And also to show YOURSELF more respect. Sex is fun... but your body is for life. Look after it. :-)

Well let me start by apologising for all the yahoo answerers above, jeez it doesn’t hurt to be slightly sympathetic.
Secondly it is very normal to be late, as stress, or changes in diet all affect your diet whether you have been regular for twenty years or four years, so I wouldn’t get too stressed, yet as always go and see a doctor as they can check everything over for you. But most importantly don’t worry about it, because stressing about it is probably just delaying it further.

your hormones change frequently this change could result in cramping i take it your not on any medication so see your doctor who can give you either small dose birth control tablets or muscle relaxants to ease the cramps at twenty your much too young to go onto hormone balance medication
